Pillar III:
Workforce Development

OUR PILLARS

In the United States, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) are underrepresented in health care professions and encountered numerous barriers to quality health care due to lack of culturally and linguistically competent services. The aim of Pillar III (Workforce Development and Support) strategies is to help create, sustain and retain a primary care workforce that will meet the needs of PI patients in the U.S. and the U.S. Pacific.

Promote Careers

Promote primary care careers to Pacific Islander communities’ especially elementary, high school and undergraduate students and their families.

Provide Mentorship

Provide mentoring to Pacific Islander undergraduates to achieve academic success towards primary care careers.

Provide Career Training

Provide training and continuous professional development (CPD) for the Pacific Islander primary care workforce.

Provide Technical Assistance

Assist in improving health workforce regulatory mechanisms in the Freely Associated States (FAS) to promote continuous professional development and competency.
